Kristin Brinner
I am a Lead Engineer at Achieve Internet, doing Technical Product Management for enterprise web products. I have a 7th grader at Earl Warren Middle School, and I served as the PTA president for the Solana Beach Elementary PTA (Skyline and Solana Vista schools) from 2023-2025. In my other spare time I am also the co-lead of the Beach Preservation Committee for the San Diego Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. I moved to California (from Boston) in 1999 to receive my PhD from UC Berkeley in Organic Chemistry in 2004.
Melissa Jaramillo
Secretary
As a product of Capri Elementary, Diegueno Middle School, San Dieguito and La Costa Canyon High Schools, I have directly benefited from the service of previous generations of PTAs/PTSAs within the North Coastal Council and the Ninth District. I am honored to support this group as Secretary this year with the hope that our work benefits each and every student championed by the PTAs/PTSAs in Del Mar, Encinitas, Solana Beach and San Dieguito School Districts. I look forward to serving our school community and ensuring every voice is heard!
I am the parent of a Torrey Hills Elementary Hawk and a Carmel Valley Middle School Bobcat. I have held the positions of Communications VP, Health and Safety VP, and President within our local elementary school PTA. PTAs everywhere face the exciting challenge of navigating a vastly different landscape than 125 years ago when our current volunteer and advocacy model was created. I am eager to be a part of conversations regarding inclusion and accessibility for students and their guardians in improving the education, health and safety of all children.
Doreen Hom
Doreen is a native San Diegan (and graduate of UC San Diego) who has been a long time PTA volunteer serving unit, council, and district. Her roles have included president, treasurer, secretary, parliamentarian, and financial reviewer. Her two children are alumni of Ashley Falls, Earl Warren MS, and Torrey Pines HS. Both have since graduated from college and are “adulting”. Doreen is still a board member of the TPHS Foundation as well as its Badminton Liaison, and is on the admin staff of San Diego North County Chinese School. She can even tell you how rewarding it is to volunteer at her children’s college too. Professionally, she is a part time biologist at Scripps Research.
Amy Flicker
Prior to becoming a full time mom, I held executive positions focused on Organizational Planning & Development and Succession Planning in the wireless telecom industry. We have 2 boys, one who graduated from SDA, and the other from LCC. Our youngest is a special needs student, who is on the autism spectrum.I served as a PTA President and various other roles in EUSD and SDUHSD, such as ICOC, Social & Emotional Wellness Committee, SPED Taskforce, SPED Transition Taskforce. I was also on the executive board for NCCSE, which oversees 14 school districts for northern San Diego County. For the City of Encinitas, I served as Environmental Commissioner, Planning Commissioner, Cyclovia, Climate Action Plan & City Ordinances.Being involved where my energy and efforts can benefit our kids and our communities are what I enjoy the most. I am privileged to be your NCC President for the 2023-2024 school year and look forward to supporting you.
Judi Strang
I am an advocate for youth and parents, a retired social worker, Executive Director of San Dieguito Alliance, parent of 7 children, all of whom graduates from Torrey Pines High School. I have served in the past as Unit and Council President, Treasurer, and Health & Safety, Legislation. I have a great interest in Legislation as an opportunity to change and interrupt the promotions and messages that persuade youth that alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and drugs are an answer to dealing with life’s anxieties and problems. I have a BA in Psychology after entering college with Math major (still a great love of mine), and MA in Education Psychology (primarily research and data collection). I am a native San Diegan, always living near the beach which I love.
Kristie Mahin
I am a proud momma of a seventh-grader at El Camino Creek and a sophomore at LCC. Beyond my own family, I’d like to say I also have hundreds of other kiddos. For over two decades, I've served as a dedicated educator in the EUSD district creating an environment where my main goal is be sure all students feel secure and embraced.My aspiration is simple: to ensure that every child exiting my classroom at year's end departs feeling safe, seen, understood, and acknowledged. It is my commitment to foster inclusivity and warmth within my classroom and school community, regardless of a child's background, economic circumstances, family structure, gender identity, cultural heritage, racial identity, ability, religious belief, or ethnicity. Every child deserves respect and a sense of belonging, and it's my responsibility to nurture these fundamental needs.As a parent, I'm excited to work with NCC to advocate for comprehensive resources that empower schools and PTAs to instill joy and a profound sense of belonging in EVERY child. For it’s within this nurturing environment that true learning happens.
